Introduction

After graduation from a local middle school when I was 15, I decided to leave my hometown to study electrical and electronic engineering at Suzuka National College of Technology in Mie. I lived in the hall of the residence apart from my parents. Although I aimed to be an engineer, I've questioned myself of my daily life.

One day, I found a notice to participate in a short study trip in USA and I decided to join that program. That was a trigger for my interest towards going abroad. A year later, I did my first gap year in the UK and I managed to obtain English communication skills. Also, I got the chance to achieve my objective there to teach the local students as a tutor. That experience made me think of the new ability to create the vision and achieve the process naturally.

After returning to college and experiencing a technical English course in Temasek Polytechnic, Singapore, I participated in an international conference for my major and made a presentation in Mexico. Next, I joined an international symposium in Thailand on behalf of my college. Also, I was employed by a manufacturing company which planned to expand their business globally after completing my overseas internship in Vietnam which had a major impact on my life.

Besides that, I've decided to utilize my company's in-company training program which was carried out with duration of a year's leave of absence before joining the company. It was carried out in Germany and Japan. This was the second gap gap year I took. After returning home, I've managed to recruit members in Japan, and launched my private organization called LiDS.

In addition to the United States and Germany, I have visited 19 countries around the world so far.

What initiated my action?

Since I was a student, I have been engaged in English education of the youngergenerations through part-time jobs, such as a tutor or cram school teacher and volunteering via executing activities in education volunteering. With that, I began to doubt the Japanese education at that time. Also, I started to notice the situations inside (Japan) while I have seen a lot outside(overseas). The system was not in a bad state, but I felt that education in Japan is delayed as compared to international standards, especially in English education. I think there many people other who felt the same way as me.

However, I thought that instead of waiting for someone to make changes, we should take the lead. Though I do not have enough qualifications and experience in the education sector and many would consider it as impossible to achieve, I feel that an individual will not know the results unless they try.

In order to inspire people who hope to change themselves, it means that a common person like me have to come up with initiatives to change something.

Everyoneone knows about the anime called Doraemon in Japan. There's a main character, Nobi Nobita, who is not good at studying, playing sports and so on. But he always has precious friends to go on adventures together. I always think that Nobita is the closest to me, not Goku in Doragonball nor Luffy in one piece, so to speak. He has no special, and overwhelming talent or ability, but he was special in initiating an action and making changes spontaneously. I would like to strongly tell everyone that anyone can challenge something they want and initiate an action for changes.

My big hope is to become an inspiration by telling this to people who are still hesitating to take an action and get the chance to do something. I came across many aspects giving positive influences on my life when I was in Germany during the gap year. Something inside of me changed. In the past, when I took an action, I would adapt the concept of Give and Take. But it has since changed to the idea of "Happy Circulation" which means the lending of happiness. Some would say "oh no way come on...", but I believe that the circle of happiness from people to people will spread to another person from where it began. There was a paradigm shift that led to the change of my mindset.

Future work

I am aiming to organize an international school operated by a private sector in Japan. I

am eager to build a learning place for children, where people of different nationalities are not segregated and they would be able to find and achieve their dreams with their efforts and desire to learn. I hope to bring educational foundations to countries where people don't have a chance to learn for various reasons and I hope to expand this activity worldwide. As a first step, I would hold a free event for elementary or junior high school students,

their parents in Japan and foreign citizens. Through the activity, I am going to create a college by using an international camp and the concept of gap year around the world. I would imagine myself in a manufacturing company and do this activity. It was said that "Monozukuri(Careating design and manufacture)" is "Hitozukuri"(creating human resources). This means that, Japan cannot grow without developing its people. This is not only about design and manufacture but can be replaced to all of human activity. I hope to let the world consider about "Hitodukuri"; education.

To whom considering to take a gap year.

There must be so many things that you are willing to try if you are thinking to take a

gap year. However, please find a purpose or a big vision to reach in the future. It is not only about having fun but it is also hard to settle abroad and move into extraordinary life. Therefore, please have your own core that encourages yourself even when you are having a difficult time and don't forget to smile and enjoy your life all the time.

The three points I focused on during the gap year

1. Save money → to come up with an idea

2. Not to use the existing human network → to make the new human network

3. Not speak in Japanese → to have relations with foreigners positively

It was not my original purpose to master a foreign language when I was living abroad. I won't go into details about what I did during the gap year in this essay. Instead, I would prefer you do your best on your gap year. I must say that the experience will definitely be a great opportunity to think about what you really want to do and question yourself on your initial thoughts. I'll write a book about my gap year in a few years, and I would share various stories about the different people whom I met during the gap year.

At last...

I will be grateful if you take my experience as an example to consider about your case. Here is the reason I decided to write down and post my gap year story. There is a certain thing that " human makes human" I would like to tell that to everyone in the world. To meet new people, to relate to them, to be affected by them, to learn, to think, to act, to fail... and to challenge again.

There is no end to this cycle in the human life. For someone at the time who needed to decide on something important in your life, to someone who was just acknowledged as an adult in the society, to someone who is between a student and a worker or anyone living in this world with the hectic changes now, please consider and make a decision from these small things! And take a few minutes to think " What is Education?"
